Welcome to Stafafell guesthouse!
Stafafell is a family-run guesthouse and sheep farm in South East Iceland, about 70 km west of Djúpivogur and 30 km east of Höfn. The farm is nestled between the rainbow-coloured mountains of Lón and the delta of the glacial river Jökulsá í Lóni.
We offer accommodation for up to 30 persons in double, triple and four bed rooms in a renovated 19th-century farmhouse and in two cottages. In each of the houses, there is a well-equipped self-catering kitchen and a living room with TV.
The region is named after a shallow bay, Lón, which is protected by sand spits. At the eastern end of the lagoon are the breeding grounds of a big colony of whooper swans and often the lagoon is speckled with white swans.
The colourful rhyolite mountains of Stafafell offer various hiking opportunities, ranging from short and easy day hikes to more demanding multi-day backpacking treks.
In summer, you can encounter herds of wild reindeer high up in the mountains, but in winter, they move down to the lowlands and then they can frequently be seen grazing along the main road.
We don´t serve dinner, so bring enough food! The closest groceries, restaurants and petrol stations are at Höfn (34 km to the west) or Djúpivogur (70 km to the east)
